May - where has the year gone!? It is hard to believe but we have just completed our last trip for the 'season'. Canberra in May is truly great riding weather, it does sound like I may just be making this up but riding in 3C isn't as bad as it sounds/seems! We had a group head down on the first weekend of May and many of the riders were repeat customers, looking and searching for more sweet single track. For Photos CLICK HERE.
It is great to see the trails all in such condition, it's been a busy few months down in Canberra on the MTB racing scene and the trails have stood the test of millions of tyres rolling through them. Kowen, now that the new freeway has opened, is just that much better. There is now an access road making for no semi-trailers barreling through or 'colourful' locals yelling their "hellos" as they drive past.
After our session with Peter Dowse and ripping up a lap of Kowen we had lunch and were off to the hallowed trails of Bruce Ridge, the team of 'fairies' continue to build trails and all their hard work is much appreciated! To sum up the rest of the weekend in a few sentences it went like this, ALL you can eat dinner, beers/cider/bourbon at the Old Canberra Inn (cira 1860), sleep, ride for the brave (cheers Kimberley and Jason), All you can eat breakfast, head to Stromlo, a few crashes and then time to ascend the hill in the dense fog. Lots of sweet trails, lunch, shower and head back to Sydney with most of the bus having a little kip. A great crew, lots of laughs and I'm already looking forward to getting back down there in September for the Gear Up Girl weekend.
Other matters - we've got one more Gear Up Girl MTB weekend slated for 2012 September. Bookings are now open and as I've said before, these are some of my favourite weekends. Get in early to sort your spot ... sorry men, it is for ladies only! This from one of our recent ladies on tour 'Just wanted to say thanks for such a great weekend last week. TORC weekend - the February CBR weekend has now been run and done - what a hoot! To read a small review from the CBR weekend by Mike Israel click here.
The Lithgow > Ligthgow trip has also been completed. Now it's time to head back to Canberra to ride the amazing single track down there. The date has been confirmed!
We will depart Turramurra Cyclery on Saturday 6 October and return Sunday 7 October.

The ride in Canberra this past weekend couldn't have been better, crystal clear skies, the perfect temperature and also great company! 6 of us had a good old time playing on the single tracks and the pictures are there to prove it. We are taking a little break from doing our normal group rides but we've got some privat...e trips coming up in January. Our next slated official trip will be 6-7 Feb.
